This youth-led book club helps to make reading fun and helps support sharing ideas and public speaking. The club ensures that participants are ready to move on to the next grade level and helps nurture a lifelong desire to read and learn.
Why It Matters
In 2022, the average reading score for 4th graders in Michigan was 212. This was a significant drop from the 2019 score of 218 and lower than the national average of 217.
Improved reading comprehension skills helps children make critical connections between the things they read and things they encounter in everyday life.
Working to Develop Reading Skills
In the past, the 3rd Grade Reading Law creates a milestone for young learners. Although the law no longer applies, this time is often a turning point in a child's educational journey. This fun and engaging environment allows students to read, explore and connect with other readers within their age group.
